And this sunset took my breath away. Not once but repeatedly.  I will post more photographs, certainly, but here are two of my favorites:

Her Laughter Came in Waves

This photograph is blurry and technically a mess, but there is something dreamy about it. It almost looks as if the moon were lighting the sea foam, rather than the sun.  It evokes in me the sense of wonder that is childhood–something that is never far from me, whether in my own heart or that of my children.

And the Sea Reached Out to Him

Every moment on the beach I watched my children and their enjoyment of the ocean, the sand, the sea creatures so different from what they know. I  held their happiness so close to my heart and tried to burn it forever in my memory as that sun seared the sky and sea.

The Pelican Brief

At the start of April, we took a family vacation to South Carolina. I can’t believe it’s been an entire month since I stood on the shores of the Atlantic, listening to tide crash against the sand and then retreat again. I can still feel the sea breeze whip my hair into tangles and the sunshine drain every last bit of this winter’s blues from my pores.

It was chilly yet–weather best enjoyed in sweatshirts and pants rolled to just below the knee, for wading in the ocean and examining shells and things left on the shore by the sea. Still, there were a couple of days the temperature flirted with 80, and I took full advantage of my bikini, the quiet privacy of the little island, and bronzing my winter-white skin (a tan earned with SPF protection, of course!)

I have many, many photographs from the trip. I am going to try to get into the swing of writing again, perhaps daily, and just post away. *fingers crossed*
